Children’s Programs

Summer Reading Program Registration will begin on May 15th at all PCLS branches and online.  The 2017 Summer Reading Program will run June 1st -July 8th.  We will have a SRP kick-off event on Saturday June 3rd at the Pope County Library from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m.  Join us for a fun filled day with introductions to STEM activities.  We will have stations set up around the library for children to get hands on and learn about “Building a Better World”.  For more information on this event contact Ms. Melanie at 968-4368 or email kids@popelibrary.org.

MAD SCIENTIST CLUB–Will resume after Summer Reading Program is over.  Stayed Tuned for more information. For children between the ages of 2 and 12 to develop a love for science by exploring science through exciting and thrilling experiments that will spark an interest in future scientific endeavors. Every Tuesday at 4 p.m.-Teen Writers Group– group meets every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m.-5:15 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Meet and work with a published author, learn how to get published, learn about writing-based scholarship opportunities, and participate in fun writing activities. The last Tuesday of the month TEEN BOOK CLUB– will meet on  last Tuesday of each month, from 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. in Heritage Hall. This ongoing event is held the last Tuesday of each month, with book selection being reader’s choice. Swap ideas for what to read next or just drop in and tell us what you’re reading now or what you’ve finished recently—you might just find your new favorite book! ACT Prep– Classes are designed to help with general test taking skills, and on those areas that are needed most. Contact Sherry Simpson,  or Elizabeth Lilley at 968-4368 for more information on these FREE classes.  These classes are FREE!  Please bring pencil, paper, and the calculator student plans to use during the actual test.  We hold ACT Test Prep classes 2 weeks prior to the Test date.   Classes are from 3:30-5:15 p.m.

 Adult Programs  

Every Tuesday River Valley Writers– is a group for adult writers that meets every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Their purpose is to encourage and inspire as well as share and critique each other’s works. Writers of every genre and varying ability are welcome. Every Wednesday Fitness Class–  We meet on Wednesdays, at 5:30 in Heritage Hall. This is an FREE informal class where we meet and workout as a group.  We workout with DVDs, fitness videos, and have discussions on health topics.  For more information on this class, contact Tammy Montjoy at 968-4368, or email outreach@popelibrary.org.

Second Tuesday of the month Dover Book Club– The Dover Book Club will meet at the Dover Public Library, Tuesday, June 13th at 1:00 p.m. The members each read a book of their choice and bring a 3 minute review to perk the interest of others.  For more information contact Melissa Sanders, 331-2173, or email msanders@popelibrary.org.

1st Thursday of the Month Computer Class— Are you looking to improve your computer skills? PCL is now offering FREE computer classes from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. We will be covering the basics of computers and learning to use common computer programs. 4th. Thursday of the month Genealogy Group– May 25th, at 5:30 p.m. PCLS GENEALOGY GROUP will meet in the Katie Murdoch Genealogy & History Room located inside the Pope County Library. CRAFTY COLLECTION – Do you crochet, knit, sew, cross stitch, or do any other type of handwork? Do you want to learn? Join our Crafty Collective, a group of craft enthusiasts that meets every month to craft together. May 19th from 4-5:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall. Feel free to bring a current project to work on, or come see what others are up to.
